Voter Power is Oregon’s largest and most effective medical marijuana reform organization. We advocate for reasonable, fair and effective cannabis laws and policies. Voter Power also registers people to vote and runs campaigns and initiatives along with working in the Oregon State Legislature to move beneficial legislation forward. Since 1997 we have registered over 30,000 voters and assisted thousands of patients and caregivers by educating them about the medical marijuana and the laws in Oregon. Voter Power also pioneered the medical marijuana clinic to help qualify many patients here in Oregon. Voter Power has assisted hundreds of patients through access to excess programs. Voter Power has helped create and assist many local patient support networks. Voter Power has also funded impact litigation in order to clarify gray areas of the law. Voter Power has brought many hero’s of the drug reform movement to Oregon including Jack Herer, Ed Rosenthal, Rob Kampia and Valerie Corral. Following the 1998 election, Voter Power has been involved in all aspects if implementing OMMA. Voter Power is currently working on implementing the new changes to the OMMA law (see the ‘Politics’ section on this website) that just happened in January. Also Voter Power is working to open a Patient Resource Center (PRC) that will serve the needs of thousands of medical marijuana patients in Oregon. Voter Power actively participates in the public process for influencing administrative rules in regards to the OMMA. Voter Power has been at the center of marijuana reform in Oregon for the past six years. We formed the organization in response to the 1997 attempt by the Oregon Legislature to recriminalize marijuana. We worked with national organizations to successfully kill recrim with the 1998 referendum. We also convinced them to fund the original Oregon Medical Marijuana Act and we worked actively on the successful 1998 campaign which brought us our current law. Following the 1998 election, Voter Power has been involved in all aspects of implementing OMMA. Voter Power pioneered the clinic process which has exploded and now assists thousands of patients at various clinics. Voter Power particpated actively in the public process for influencing administrative rules. Voter Power, and other groups, have met regularly with the Health Department. Voter Power has funded impact litigation trying to clarify gray areas in the law. Voter Power has been active in educating legislators on issues relating to marijuana in every session. Voter Power organized the process that resulted in the drafting of Measure 33 and we formed A Life with Dignity Committee to manage that campaign. Voter Power has assisted hundreds of patients through access to excess programs. Voter Power has helped create and assist many local patient support networks. Voter Power has brought many heroes of drug reform to Oregon including Ed Rosenthal, Jack Herer, Rob Kampia, and Valerie Corral. We intend to continue our work. Our goals are to maximize implementation of our current medical marijuana law, work every way possible to improve it, and build a movement that can eventually make broader marijuana reforms. We intend to be very active during the legislative session, educating lawmakers about the need for change. We look forward to working with all of you in the future. Thanks,
John Sajo
