Voter Power is Oregon's leading marijuana reform organization. We advocate for reasonable and effecive cannabis laws and policies. We are Oregon's most politically active marijuana law reform organization, working to protect the Oregon Medical Marijuana Act (OMMA), improve Oregon's marijuana laws, and are currently the only state-wide organization in Oregon working to establish licensed and regulated medical marijuana dispensaries.

Voter Power was founded in 1997 by several activists, including renowned hemp activist, Jack Herer, in response to the 1997 attempt by the Oregon Legislature to criminalize personal amounts of marijuana. (Oregon was the first state to decriminalize personal cannabis possesion in 1972.) Also in 1997, Voter Power's Executive Director, John Sajo, and Legal Counsel, Leland Berger, helped draft the Oregon Medical Marijuana Act.

In 1998, Voter Power successfully carried out two campaigns by implementing the "Yes on 67, No on 57" compaign. "Yes on 67" passed the landmark Oregon Medical Marijuana Act that allowed Oregonians with severe debilitating medical conditions such as cancer, glaucoma, HIV, or severe chronic pain to legally possess, consume, and grow medical marijuana. "No on 67" passed a citizen's veto via a referendum that prevented the Oregon Legislature from criminalizing personal amounts of marijuana.

Since its birth in 1997, Voter Power has registered over 30,000 new Oregon voters, helped thousands of patients register with the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program (OMMP) , and successfully lobbied the Oregon legislature to fund and improve OMMA. Today, Voter Power continues fighting for Oregon's patients and an end to marijuana prohibition.

During the 2007 Oregon legislative session, our number one priority was stopping Senate Bill 465, which would have allowed employers to fire medical marijuana patients. We led the effort to stop this bill in the Oregon House after it passed overwhelmingly in the Senate. Now, our top priority is stopping Republican Kevin Mannix's attempt to repeal OMMA. We have challenged this initiative as unconstitutional since it violates Oregon's "single subject rule." However, we must defeat it at the ballot box if our challenge is unsuccessful. We have also filed an initiative that would legalize licensed and regulated dispensaries, establish a program to assist low-income patients and protect OMMA by generating millions of dollars in state revenue.

Please contact us if you would like to become a Voter Power member and join the fight to provide safe access for Oregon's patients and end the War on Marijuana. To join, please send $100 or a partial payment and pledge to:

Each of us has one small voice, but together we are a giant roar that can shake the hall of the State Capitol! Please let your voice be heard. Send an email or a fax, make a phone call or write a letter to the Drugfree Workgroup and Dan Harmon today and ask them to treat all disabled Oregonians with dignity and respect including medical marijuana patients.

Wikipedia says=="A private prison, jail, or detention center is a place in which individuals are physically confined or interned for profit."

1,511,153 Arrests so far this year for drug law violations

663,404 just for Cannabis

more than $40,500,000,000 spent total (federal and state spending)

2:48am PST

Those who end up in a jail cell...will end up going through some kind of "training" or "worker re-entry" program--this will entail them performing work for a major corporation at like 30 cents an hour...
more than half of those who do time and have to do this will be African American males 21-39
OVER HALF...

The American Correctional Association (www. aca. org) formed in 1870-(the 13th Amendment happened 5 years prior) to help the prison industry be more profitable...

Please join with us in saying No Prison Labor-end the drug war--
I need folks every where to help organize
"Drug War Freedom Congress" in Nashville, TN---August 2009
This will be during/just prior to the ACA's 139th Annual Congress of Corrections.....
please help us with this important and potentially world changing event...

In perspective...the largest of the private prison operators in the US...Corrections Corporation of America on August 7, 2008 reported the following financial information:

* Net income increased 15.0% to $37.5 million from $32.6 million
* Net income per diluted share increased 15.4% to $0.30 from $0.26
* EBITDA increased 14.0% to $96.7 million from $84.8 million
* Adjusted Free Cash Flow increased 33.0% to $56.4 million from $42.4 million

Okay the economy is failing...everyone is losing money...but not these folks...15% increase in net income....

Private prison are profitting from your loss of rights...

Register to Vote...serve on Juries and use your right to Jury Nullification...volunteer in your local community and if you have time,
I am looking for folks from all 50 states to join in this fight against
American Correctional Association---the group who furthers the private prison agenda....
if you can help organize a group from your local community to go demonstrate and educate in Kissimee, Fl this January or in Nashville, TN this August, please contact me...
